Description

The Appalachian National Scenic Trail is a 2,179 mile hiking trail stretching from Maine to Georgia. The Trail is maintained by volunteers performing both administrative tasks as well as trail maintenance and construction. Volunteers meet new people, learn about the Trail and about nature, often get good exercise and perhaps a little dirty, and are rewarded by knowing they help ensure that future generations will have the opportunity to enjoy this national treasure.

NBATC maintains 90 miles of the Appalachian Trail in Central Virginia. Routine maintenance includes: weed and brush trimming, litter pickup, waterbar cleaning, removal of blowdowns, cleaning of shelters and privies and painting blazes. Larger projects include construction and maintenance of shelters and privies. Trail repairs and relocations are also performed.
